Generative AI in health professions education – Workshop for Tartu Health Care College

Earlier today I facilitated a workshop at the Tartu Health Care College in Estonia. The audience included health professions educators and researchers from the college.

Abstract

This workshop explores the emerging role of generative AI in health professions education and its implications for educators and researchers. Drawing from recent research and practical applications, participants will gain insights into how AI technologies are reshaping health professions education, from basic administration, to LTA and research. The session examines both the opportunities and challenges presented by AI integration, with particular focus on maintaining human oversight while leveraging technological advantages. Through exploration of real-world examples and current research, participants will develop a deeper understanding of how to effectively and ethically incorporate AI tools into their practice. Special attention is given to practical considerations such as structured prompting, collaborative approaches to AI use, and the importance of integrating pedagogical factors and human values. This workshop is designed to equip health professions educators with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the evolving landscape of AI-enhanced health professions education.
