Earlier today I gave this presentation at the Lincolnshire Practical Management conference, where I shared some of the practical applications of AI for GP practice management. I wanted to demonstrate some examples of real-world application across multiple domains that are relevant for practice managers, including: website analysis, patient communication strategies, educational content creation, and strategic service development.

I also tried to emphasise adaptive integration—starting with low-risk administrative tasks before expanding to complex applications, so the examples move from relatively simple to those that are harder to implement. I stuck with my general approach of suggesting that we treat AI like a human collaborator, acknowledging its limitations while leveraging its strengths in information processing and idea generation, and always maintaining transparency about AI use with patients.
These are the examples I worked through:
- Website optimisation: Use AI to analyse patient engagement and accessibility, generating specific improvement recommendations
- Patient profiling: Create detailed demographic profiles to develop targeted communication strategies for different patient groups
- Educational content: Generate evidence-based patient materials, newsletters, and health information tailored to practice populations
- Strategic planning: Conduct local health needs analysis and develop service improvement roadmaps aligned with NHS priorities
- Implementation approach: Start with administrative tasks, address staff concerns proactively, and maintain ethical boundaries around patient data
