In this presentation for the 2025 Norwegian Physiotherapy Conference, I address the evolving landscape of digital healthcare technologies and their implications for clinical practice. I stress the need for a balanced approach to embracing innovation while also recognising the inherent challenges involved, as healthcare undergoes digital transformation across the sector.
I explore the impact across the following key dimensions: security considerations for patient information; regulatory frameworks including GDPR; ethical considerations around privacy, equity, and algorithmic fairness; and clinical approaches for integrating digital tools with traditional practice. Special attention is given to AI applications in healthcare, highlighting both possibilities and limitations.
To navigate this landscape effectively, practitioners must develop digital literacy, communication skills, adaptability, ethical reasoning, and maintain human connection. Successful future clinicians will combine technological expertise with human-centred care that enhances the therapeutic relationship.
