The second session of the FAIMER Connect Continued Learning series explored the impact and potential of generative AI in the fields of health professions practice, education, and research (see session 1 here).
Key topics covered included:
- AI in clinical practice: Discussion of AI’s performance in diagnostic reasoning, patient interaction, and its potential to enhance clinical decision-making.
- AI in learning, teaching, and assessment: Exploration of AI’s role in creating educational materials, personalised learning experiences, and the implications for assessment methods.
- AI in research: Examination of AI’s capabilities in literature review, hypothesis generation, study design, and data analysis.
This session emphasised the importance of using AI as a tool for augmenting human capabilities in a range of working contexts. It encouraged health profession educators to cultivate a mindset of curiosity and adaptability towards AI, while maintaining ethical, human-centred care. I concluded by highlighting the need for the health professional community to reshape practice to adapt to the evolving landscape in an age of AI, while preserving the core values of patient care and professional expertise.
