Trying to get better at getting better

Google’s Bard chatbot is now Gemini

I went into Bard earlier today and saw this popup.

Gemini has been the language model behind the Bard chatbot for a couple of months (like how GPT is the model behind Copilot and ChatGPT), and I was wondering if Google was going to change the name of Bard. Gemini is a better name.

Find out more at the announcement from Google.

And, just like you can upgrade to ChatGPT Plus with a paid subscription, you can now also upgrade to Gemini Advanced, which uses the Gemini Ultra language model. And it’s slightly cheaper than ChatGPT Plus.

I think this is a great move. I’ve been choosing Bard over the free version of ChatGPT (GPT-3.5) since they upgraded the model from PaLM 2 to Gemini. I’m keen to see what Gemini Advanced can do, although to be honest, I don’t think that my use case is going to make it with the cost.

And it’s also finally got an app.
