I’ve been surprised at how little we’re talking about AI at the conference.
I know that I can get sucked into a bubble, where all of my attention is taken up by what’s coming through my feed. But, even taking this into consideration, I’d expected a lot more conversation around AI at AMEE.
When it has been mentioned, it’s almost always accompanied by, what to me, sounds like nervous laughter from the audience. As if everyone knows about it on some level, and they know it’s important, but it’s far more comfortable having our heads in the sand, thank you very much.
Having said that, it’s also nice not to have one topic sucking up all the oxygen in the room. It’s been great to spend time thinking about all the other aspects of health professions education that interest me.
But still. It’s AI. And I really do think it’s going to change everything. This community should probably be paying it more attention.
