Trying to get better at getting better

Presentation by Rakesh Patel on a MOOC that he developed while at Nottingham. He basically took the MSc programme he was running at the time, and converted it into an open online course.

“Connect with a global network of multi-professional educators in healthcare, and gain new perspectives on your teaching strategies and values as a health educator. On this course from the University of Nottingham, you’ll identify and apply the fundamentals of education to the healthcare professions. You will be empowered to make evidence-based improvements to your teaching.”

I liked the point Rakesh made about participants wanting information, opinion, and validation.

The course has a good rating (4.8) and more than 100 reviews (out of the almost 9000 total participants since it launched). If you’re interested in faculty development in this area, you may find the course interesting.

I was initially surprised to see this presentation, as MOOCs aren’t new. But it fit in well with the conference theme. As I saw more presentations, I got the impression that the conference organisers might actually be constraining presentations to the broad theme of ‘inclusivity’.
