Trying to get better at getting better

AI is not neutral. Neither is education.

I’m so tired of seeing LinkedIn pundits bang on about how AI is not neutral.

Not because it’s untrue, but because it’s obvious.

Nothing created by humans is neutral; creators make choices, and those choices are informed by their values.

So yes, AI is not neutral.

But here’s the thing that really irritates me; I don’t see any of these people talking about the fact that education is not neutral.

There is no such thing as neutral education. Education either functions to bring about conformity or freedom (Paulo Freire).

At least we know the motivations behind AI (and Edtech) companies. What bothers me more is that systems of education make intellectually dishonest claims about their neutrality, while shaping minds and values just as deliberately.
