Trying to get better at getting better

A lovely satirical post about the kinds of policies we might see come into play, if pencils were introduced into schools today.

…as pencils become increasingly prevalent in our daily lives, to equip learners, educators, and leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate this revolutionary technology responsibly, in safe, equitable and meaningful ways. Thus, pencil literacy has emerged as a critical skill set for everyone to safely and effectively use these groundbreaking innovations.

This reminded me of the outstanding #pencilchat wave that swept through Twitter in 2011 (I had an app for Twitter that automatically captured a few of my favourites at the time).

Also, Jesse Stommel’s similar point about laptop use in the classroom.

This new pencil policy has the obligatory note about the ethics of pencil use.

It is crucial to note that in the realm of pencil ethics, students must be taught the paramount importance of not utilizing the sharpened end for unauthorized data extraction or non-consensual mark-making.

And most importantly, consideration of “…the risks involved in having poky-pointy things in the hands of children.”
