Trying to get better at getting better

Claude, you had me at “deadly warrior nuns”

I was looking for a new science-fiction / fantasy series, so I fired up Claude:

I really enjoyed the golden enclave series, as well as the series that starts with Gideon the ninth. And also typical fantasy, like Lord is the rings. Suggest other options

Note that I didn’t even bother trying to remember the name of the “Locked Tomb” series. And also, there’s less need to set up this kind of interaction nowadays; i.e. I didn’t start by asking Claude to take on the role of a librarian. Increasingly, you can just ask LLMs to do something.

Straight away I was impressed. I absolutely loved the Broken Earth trilogy, and Priory of the Orange Tree. I was less enthused about A Darker Shade of Magic, but it definitely belonged in this list.

I was intrigued when I saw the Book of the Ancestor trilogy by Mark Lawrence, as I really enjoyedThe Book that Wouldn’t Burn.

Beginning with “Red Sister,” this series features a magic school setting (like Scholomance) but with deadly warrior nuns. It has the dark academic elements you might enjoy from both the Scholomance and Locked Tomb series.

Deadly warrior nuns? Say no more. I’m in.
