Trying to get better at getting better

In this video I provide a very simple guide to effective prompt writing for generative AI.

I use a framework to describe a process for expanding the context window that language models need to provide useful responses to your prompts. And I walk-through a worked example where I show what the process looks like, using Claude.

The framework I describe for adding context to the prompt is:

  • Role: Give the language model a persona where you tell it something about itself in the context of the response you’re looking for.
  • Goal: Explain the outcome you’re looking for.
  • Instruct: Tell the language model what you want it to do by giving it examples and steps to follow.

Here are the slides, if you’re interested.
