Now that we’re all having meetings remotely you may want to think about going for a walk instead of sitting in front of your computer.
Off the top of my head, here are a few benefits:
- Less distraction (harder to open Twitter and email in multiple tabs).
- Spending time outside instead of at your desk.
- You don’t end up staring at a grid of avatars.
The next time you have a meeting where you don’t need to take notes or refer to a bunch of documents:
- Make sure you have whatever meeting platform (Jitsi, Zoom, Meet, Teams, etc.) installed on your phone.
- Get a pair of wireless earphones.
- Join the meeting from your phone.
- Go for a walk.

I have definitely done this. I agree its a great way, if someone else is taking notes and you don’t have to look at a joint document! I also use this to ‘visit and walk’ virtually with friends who are far away – is a lovely way to catch up, get exercise, share tidbits we are each seeing (like a butterfly, etc.).
