If you’re a clinician interested in working in health AI:
- Learn about AI concepts and related domains (e.g. NLP, expert systems, robotics, etc) before spending any time learning to code.
- Focus on the many nuances of clinical practice that come with years of experience at the bedside.
- Study human decision-making and the influence of biases and heuristics on clinical outcomes.
It’s not about becoming an expert in machine learning; AI companies have plenty of those. What they don’t always have are clinicians with experience and deep insight into the clinician-patient interactions.
