“I have a second job, which is evaluation, or gatekeeping, or, most specifically, point-guarding. I’m supposed to award “points” based on what students do in my class. Students try to acquire as many points as they can, and I try to stop them from obtaining points too easily. My employers expect me to ensure that, at the end of the semester, some students have more points than other students.”
