XDR-TB in South Africa: No Time for Denial or Complacency

April 11th, 2009

In South Africa there are many individuals living with TB or HIV/aids. In some communities resources are limited to the availability of certain medications or effective treatment. In today’s world, Tb is mostly recognised in the socially disadvantage and poverty stricken communities. The spread of the disease is also driven so that unemployment can also lead to lack of money and the inability to gain access to hospitalization or medication to cue TB. In my opinion, anybody should be allowed access to treatment, whether or not there finances are not met. It is each individual’s human right to have access to public health care. The treatment can be made available at a reasonable price that meets the individual’s needs and so that can be one solution to prevent the spread of the disease. I feel that poverty stricken communities should be helped with treatment so that they to can live more productive and healthy lifestyles. The health care system should have a broader approach on how to handle outbreak of diseases by allowing treatment more effectively to poverty stricken communities.

I agree to disagree. The problem with below the belt communities lies with there financial status thus all the other factors occur due to this. Continuous Education(Health promotion) plays a very important role in such conditions. But there are those arrogant being the will only hear and not listen. Yes everybody has the right to have access to public health but do they use it? In XDR Tb treatment is difficult. People within poverty stricken communities does not know the difference normal TB and XDR TB until they have it. Thus Educate, Educate and once more i think educate.
