This project is being undertaken as part of my participation in the SAFRI/FAIMER programme. I'll be evaluating the use of a social network to facilitate the development of a reflective Community of Practice during 2010/2011. This project will also inform my first PhD objective, part of which was a survey to identify possible factors influencing students use of social networks as part of their learning activities.

Prior to each assignment, the researcher will conduct a workshop with both the lecturer and relevant class. Before the workshop begins, the class will be asked to participate in a survey (the 4th year project and part of my first objective. During the workshop, students and st…

This is where I'll be updating my Doctoral progress which, together with my blog and Twitter stream, will be an open progress report on where I am and where I'm going with my project. I first came across the idea of an open documentation of the research process after listening to a podcast on open notebook science. I like the idea of the process being transparent, especially since our understanding of the world relies on ideas that can be tested by others.
